Sometimes you want

Sometimes you want a bike.
Sometimes you want a dog.
Sometimes you want an awesome kickass fighting mashine.

Sometimes you get a friend.

Brush is gonna brush

Brush is gonna do what a brush is gonna do.

I met those two crazy french animators from Goeblin who always draw in their tiny moleskines, smoke and drink wine. Next day, I bought a small no name sketchbook and halfway filled it with drawing done with a copic brush pen. Those Frenchmen though, they are très cool.

Line of thought

Lines are easy. Line makes a thought, or more thoughts if the occasion is right. Not sure though what a thought really is. A concept of something I guess. So is a line really. With one rule like “make line into thing”, you can have more different things than you’ll ever need real quick. You can also fill your life with just this one rule. But this is how everything was created, so it must be good for something. Also, if you have more than one you can collect them. Like pokemon.

Sisyphus

Albert Camus had a nice take on the guy. I worked on a short inspired by him. These are some stills from the animatic.

Making of: Annette Humpe Zeitgeschichte

Ende Oktober feierte Annette Humpe ihren 60sten Geburtstag.

kiss

My current assignment is just awesome. Can you guess why?

Edit: The animatic just got approved. That means there is gonna be some steamy drawing during the next days.

This is a little better. More saturation.

Happy Onion Skin Accidents

This picture is not really a part of my animation that will change the way we see animation but a mere accident – a freak creation so to speak. But let me explain. For frame by frame hand drawing animation, I still fancy Adododobes Flash* for its straight forward and easy peasy workflow.

One of the neat features that every animation software has now is the “onion skin”. This function lets you see the former, the latter or both frames of the animation frame you are currently drawing in. So I was cleaning my animation of this dude here which is in black and white in the end but I had the background red to see the white lines and the onion skin was on too and – bang – this awesome dude just sat there kind of staring at me. Creepy, I know, that’s why I told you.

* Flash CS4 sucks. Too slow, too baggy, new features implemented but not in a way that can compete with other apps. I will reinstall Flash 8 when I am finished with that project. Way to fuck up a half decent product, Adobe. :)

Pixel Characters

I made some pixel art characters in my spare time about two month ago. Even though I am more a pen and paper (and wacom) kind of guy, this pixel work, which is a task actually closer to building stuff with legos than to drawing, can be pretty fun.

The dream team Strangmeyer/Krehl delivered another adventure of the famous Zombietöter just right for Halloween. I did this little tribute pic. Enjoy the comic.
