Fubiz Awards 2012
The fubiz awards 2012 are up and running and you can go vote for the stuff you like. The competition is split into categories like Graphics, Music Video, Architektur or Animator. My film “One Minute Puberty” is nominated and you can vote for it, mind you. This competition in general has some outstanding stuff, lots of which I hadn’t seen before. Like, check this shit out. Awesome.
Meanwhile, I’d been working in Viborg, Danemark for the last two weeks. Wonderful people and work here but I also miss my town.

Lets go parachuting on tuesday
the internet. it never ceases to amaze.
Thank you Puberty Supporters
I am astonished that my little film one minute puberty gathered almost a million views within one month on vimeo. (EDIT: It surpassed the one million mark last week. woohoo!) If you add the views that my film gathered from guys who reuploaded it on youtube and other sites instead of just embedding the vimeo, it even has well over a million views. According to facebook, almost 60.000 people shared it on their facebook and many big and small blogs featured it in some way or the other. I want to use this post to say thank you to everyone who shared and supported my work. THANK YOU everybody.

bitteschön.tv
You might guess that i was a little overwhelmed by over 500k views for my puberty film within five days. Thank you guys for watching, sharing and all the nice comments and mails and invitations you sent me. As much as I like to work on a project for months and months – having people react to it just feels so awesome. Thank you! But until you can check in your internet fame and like-buttons for food and shelter, there needs to be some other mean of income. Introducing bitteschön.tv. I founded this creative studio with my friend Roland to make more cool stuff and have a place to do it, too. We are joined by a couple of friends and I am looking foreward to working in this lively environment. Here is our site for the moment. It will be updated periodically, the portfolio probably needs some serious trimming and I also want to put together a reel until May. Give us a little time. We are on it.
FMX 2011
I am going to give a talk at this year’s FMX / Flashconference again. While my last talk centered around the benefits and awesomeness of Flash animation, this year I am going to do pretty much the opposite. Treachery galore! Read the abstract here. I am looking forward to seeing some of you there.
The External World
Everyone knows, I am a big David O Reilly fan. I think, David established his voice and his audience understands him. Now he doesn’t need to hold back anymore. There are Ideas for a million films put into 15 minutes and no restrain. Raw hunger, sadness, sillyness, anger, malice, humour. I can’t tell you how happy I am right now. Thank you, internet. And thank you David.
CREATORS FRONT FOR DIVERSITY IN COMICS
Thank you, people of the old republic. This video is way too awesome not to share.

Christopher Hitchens and Salman Rushdie
Apart from his stand on the irak war, Mr. Hitchens is a great source of enlightenment. Now, he is probably best known for his stance on religion, theism and social policies and the rhetorical sharpness with which he dismantles his adversairies in any debate. You can just type in his name on youtube and find hundreds of highly entertaining and inspiring lectures and conversations. But I want you to watch this video (of which there is a shorter version) because it adresses a problem that we face in our culture right now. Fear. He talks about how we as westeners failed in standing by the principles of freedom when this whole danish charicature/ moslem terrorist ordeal came up. In addition, he has an interesting talk with Salmon Rushdie, a colorful and highly interesting person himself. I think, uniting the western and eastern world, finding true understanding and more equality without sacrificing one’s own identity will be the big challenge of this century. To me, individual freedom, enlightenment and solidairity are the core values that make up our modern societies. Those principles are to be upheld and defended. I admire Christopher Hithchens for putting this into words for us.
EDIT: Spot on and hilarious Hitchens parody on Death Ray Radio

American: The Bill Hicks Story
Bill Hicks started to work on his stand up career when 13 years of age and sadly died with 32. He had an extraordinairy career and is said to have been one of the best comics in the U.S. ever. How he lived his life, his deducation, his vision and the story told in this documentary are probably just the right thing to watch at the beginning of your new year. When you are reminiscing your past and making plans for the future, this seems to be a good film to see and take in. While this movie made by friends and family is rather unapologetically arguing for his place as one of the greatest in his business, we can still learn alot about life in general, about pation, the importance of the arts, the U.S. mainstream media and some other stuff, too.
I give it a 4/5 on the SchreckschussGellnerSchnitzel Scale.
Pascal Campion on Storytelling Superpowers
In this lovely video illustrator Pascal Campion talks about the storytelling, draftsmanship, emotions and superpowers in a way that really spoke to me. He elaborates on his motivations to draw and how he sees arists in the relationship to themselves and to their audience. He really adressed some anxieties that I am battling almost on a daily basis and he made me a little more confident and happy. His beautyful work matches this bright and sympathetic artist. Thank you, Pascal. And thank you Character Design Blog for sharing.

Swedish Junkboy made some awesome pixel rerenderings of current and classic video games. I particulary like the many insight jokes and how he suggested old school game mechanics and aesthetics for current games. When we see his Pixel rendering for Brütal Legend (above) he also gives a salute to creaotor Tim Schaefer’s Monkey Island roots (And possibly the wish that Brütal Legend didnt suck so bad, but that is my reading
). Those little tidbits make it not only fun to try to recognize games but also bring a delicious layer of contemplation to the project that make it that much more fun. I just love stuff like that!

Coalition of the Willing
I don’t know about this swarm intelligence thing and as much as I can appreciate open source solutions, I don’t know how far altruism is going to get us with these problems. The film however, is beautyful from start to finish and has a gripping narrative. It also uses the swarm intelligence aspect in filmmaking, even though here the narrative structure and intention was of course prewritten and the work delegated to different parties. Check it out and if you want, find out more here.
SDP – Puppentheater

Dassie
Always sharp and alert
and you’re not a pervert
that’s why we love you, dassie
I really had a shit mood the whole day but videos like the one above by Max Normal.TV are so full of joy and take pleasure in creating odd and wonderful things that I can’t help but to feel uplifted again. Max Normal is another creation by Watkins Tudor Jones who later became Ninja in a project so may know as Die Antwoord
Trailer For Every Oscar-Winning Movie Ever

Julian Smith at this year’s Typo Berlin conference
My girl friend made me aware that Julian Smith is going to be at this year’s typo berlin conference. While I can’t attend the conference due to my never decreasing work load and general disgust for people that can’t draw, I still checked out some of his videos. I have to say, I love this dude who kind of looks like a cross of Aston Cutcher and Jack Black. Inventative little skits, dark, silly and uplifting in a weird way. The malk one above was one of my favorites. Julian, hope you rock the berlin crowd as you rocked my lonely sunday work breaks.

This is very funny,
Beauty through Order by Slayer
I especially like the first half of the video – for my taste, the chains and devil stuff is unnecessairy but I guess that’s how they roll. Great visuals between abstract and kink.
