I made another album artwork for my friends from SDP.
My music video for “ne Leiche” seems to be quite the success on youtube. But the journey began with the album artwork in this year’s spring. Vincent and Dag wanted to name their album “Kontrastprogramm” (alternative program?). The album features many different styles in the realms of pop music. This and some songs were already set. After some brainstorming, we thought to make somethings with programs -> computer -> videogames, hence I showed them some stuff that EBoy did. SDP totally loved Eboy. I didn’t wanna bite EBoy of course but we settled on something with video games and pielated imagery. This series was a direct result of me trying to figure out pixel illustration btw. So, what I usually do for SDP is a so called Wimmelbild, a big landscape with allegories to their songs. This always takes away some time, but whattheheck, this is my spare time project and we don’t need to hurry here. First I tried to make pixel art but drawn on paper and colored with watercolors. So, we would have the contrast between the realms of 8bit digital aesthetics and the analog means in which the illustration has been made. Sorry to say, Vincent didn’t like it. So we threw it away. I went back to the hard core 8bit thing and kind of got in the groove after some iterations. Here is the panorama view of the front and back cover and the inlay of the digipack. Click on it to see it enlarge.
Here is the declined analog mockup.
Here is the first try at real pixel graphics next to the cheap cover for the illegal downloaders.
And here is the band reviewing the artwork in their podcast while listening to the new album.
